Lucy: Our first show! Great energy, amazing crowd. I hope our future crowds live up to the energy. Small mistakes but nothing terrible.

Lucy: My grandma wanted to throw me a 20th birthday party. Was a fun little gig, but a very flawed one. I hope in the future people will ask us to dig out some of these songs to play live.

Lucy, 06/09/23: I’m writing this the night after, so a lot of it’s fresh in my brain. AnteaterTV set up a banquet at the last minute and invited the Sounds of SoCal artists to return. I was hesitant, but Lesley and Jesus were instantly on board, as well as our friend Aejin. Seabass couldn’t make it, so we decided to create an entirely new set of songs in a different style. We aimed for a more shibuya-kei - inspired sound, and finished the lyrics right before going onstage. Considering we only rehearsed together for about twenty minutes the afternoon before, it turned out well. I wasn’t sure how loud to turn up my keyboard exactly, so it was a bit hard to hear me. We went on to have a fun night doing my radio show right afterwards. Like our first show, the audience was so warm and receptive. Lesley wrote up an incredible batch of original songs for this show. I have to give total props to the other three – all of ‘em rocked the performance. Lesley and Jesus reached out to a lot of people, like, to an extent unparalleled even by the first Sounds of SoCal event. Lesley is hoping to get some Jaguar Milkies on some tracks… and Jesus plugged our upcoming show so much. I appreciate how much they – and my dad – did and if any of them are reading this, hi!
Lucy, 6/30/23: It’s been almost a week since this show. Definitely our best yet. We dropped the Never Ever/Valentine single live. As you can hear, I got someone to turn my vocals up for Raoytek Girl, but after a bit of feedbacking, it was turned back down… and thus, the live act’s largest problem continues. We thought the SK-1 was broken (it’s just the speaker), so I used my CT-615 for Static. I chose the worst sound imaginable, with zero attack and a looong sustain/decay, and so the notes were hard to distinguish and the song barely held together. And then, our cable for the Korg Minilogue wasn’t long enough, so I did lead parts on the CT-615 too. Ugh, it just didn’t sound as good… That being said, it was a fun show. I’m glad we’re a solid live act. We snuck Simon in and he bought a pizza for me, Jesus, and my dad after the show. Rowdy crowd for the last two acts. I’ve said this a lot, but Jesus deserves a ton of applause for managing to plan out an event as huge as this. If only we made a net profit…
Artist lineup: Ruby Electric > Garden Patrol > Boycomma > Acolyte
Lucy, 09/04/23: One of our best shows, and unfortunately our last with Lesley as a core member (EDIT: not quite. sort of?). We were hoping to play “I’ve Forgotten How to Say Goodbye,” and it sucks that we didn’t have time. Hopefully Lesley can do a guest appearance at a future show (EDIT: well aged).

Lucy, 09/04/23: Mike’s first show on bass!! He did an excellent job. Static was the crowd favorite, but also it was sloppy as heck. Dyzzy’s a nice dude and this show was nice and lowkey. A lot of my dad’s friends were at this show and they received it positively.
Lucy, 10/29/23: Sadly, it seems as though this will be Mike’s last show on bass, with him going silent shortly after. I don’t like 21+ shows, but I’m glad this made us money. And their thai tea brined chicken sandwich was marvelous.
Lucy, 11/05/23: I keep mentioning this, but ugh I could not see my hands when doing guitar parts and so I messed up a lot, especially on Television Mind. It’s embarrassing, honestly. I also wish we had more rehearsal time. That aside, it was a fine show. We did alright.
Lucy, 07/05/24: A house show at UC Irvine. We planned the first four songs, which went okay. At first, we were told we wouldn't be able to use drums, but they had a kit there for other bands. I told Lesley to switch to bass and Jesus to switch for drums & throw in Match in a Hurricane to raise the energy a little. I think this saved our set.
Lucy, 07/05/24: Another three-piece show, yet slightly tighter. While a bit underwhelming, it turned out pretty well since we made sure to have drums on every track.

Lucy, 08/18/24: Sadly, Jesus was double-booked with Rangoo. Seabass did a good job filling in on drums! We had some screw-ups here and there... namely me plugging my sustain pedal into the CV/effects port, causing the keys to stop whenever I pressed down.

Lucy, 11/11/24: Our last show before Lesley moved to Japan. Small audience, but a lovely little show.
Lucy, 11/11/24: Definitely our oddest show. Our shortest yet best-paying set. An OnlyFans banner plane flew overhead. We all sat on the side, and forgot to sign in... it was awkward but charming. We were honored to be invited & to have won 2nd place. :)

Lucy, 11/11/24: A backyard house set at a frat party... the audience wasn't super invested in our set, but we gained a few new fans and put on a fun show, so it was alright in the end.
Lucy, 12/26/24: A fun show, one of our first few full-band ones. I feel like I flubbed quite a few things, but we pulled off a pretty good set. I'm proud of how Evergreens turned out.
